In the summer of 2004, Jean-Marc Saint discovered he had lung cancer. He began writing a journal—shared with friends in installments—in which he wrote with humor about the hospital environment, the intense pleasure of reading, and the peculiarities of his work as a pastor. Between chemotherapy sessions, he traveled from Mulhouse to Geneva and from Strasbourg to Paris, driven by a thirst for human connection and a desire to savor life, escape routine, and remain true to his intellectual rebellion to the very end.
