Céline Dréan moved to Rennes to pursue her studies and earned a master’s degree in cinema. She began her professional career in the late 1990s as a production manager for animated films and documentaries at Vivement Lundi!.
Working alongside filmmakers sparked in her a desire to make films, a passion that gradually took shape. In 2004, she directed her first documentary, and in 2011, she won a SCAM Étoile for her film “Le veilleur”, a sensitive portrait of the Franco-Cambodian artist Séra. From her background in production, she retains a taste for eclecticism and does not shy away from crossing genres.
In 2012, she naturally ventured into new forms of storytelling by directing the web documentary “Dans les murs de la Casbah” (Multimedia Award, PriMed—International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reporting 2013; Grand Prize, University Educational Film Festival 2014; MEDEA Award 2014). She then explored other hybrid formats blending animation and documentary, aimed at young audiences.

She wrote and directed the edutainment web series “Dis-moi Dimitri” (Animation Award in the Professional category, 1st Africa Web Festival, Abidjan 2014) and developed “Oh la vache” (10 x 3 minutes), also aimed at very young children, in French and Breton. Alongside these web-based works, filming reality remains at the heart of her work, both in her own projects and in her support of other writers. In 2016 and 2017, she directed the web series “Brest 1937” and completed “L’hippodrome”, a large-scale documentary film offering an immersive look at the Hippodrome de Vincennes.
In 2019, she released “Tous nos voeux de bonheur”, a documentary film about her family history tied to the Catholic Church in the 1960s and 1970s. “My parents were married in a chapel, early in the morning, with no witnesses. In the photo album, there are black-and-white images, with no wedding dress or traditional kiss. Going against the grain of post-May 1968 society, this wedding was, nevertheless, their revolution. Fifty years later, as they recount this previously untold story, they tell me about their forbidden love…”
